L\u2019isolario<\/em> est un genre litt\u00e9raire g\u00e9ographique qui s\u2019\u00e9panouit \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque des grandes d\u00e9couvertes. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un r\u00e9cit cosmographique maritime, un recueil d\u2019\u00eeles cartographi\u00e9es, qui propose un syst\u00e8me in\u00e9dit pour repr\u00e9senter l\u2019espace maritime situ\u00e9 au-del\u00e0 des rivages continentaux que d\u00e9crivent les portulans.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n\n

Ever since taking my first journey, I have been fascinated by these micro-territories and felt a need to return to them again and again. Like magnets, islands call out to islands, they are made for us to return to them. What\u2019s more, an island as a complex and contradictory space opens up a highly stimulating field for consideration. As such, in this dissertation, I explore the effects of islands on the literary and artistic imagination through a series of cartographies, before setting off to experience an insular Mediterranean territory: the island of Porquerolles. This section is the fruit of a personal wandering through the places, encounters and happenstances of a landscape with a strong identity.
