ON A QUEST FOR MEANING

From early 20th-century monuments to the dead to today’s memorial museums, the increasing presence of painful memories brings with it the creation of new places of memory. A society on a quest for meaning and emotion, a changing memory, but also political, historical and social will have all led to the emergence of these multifaceted temples to memory. Anxiety, fear and contemplation are variously translated through architectural and scenographic techniques able to give tangible form to a common feature: loss. What does this joint development look like? Have the different architectural facets of this memory/emotion fallen prey to derivatives, in spite of themselves?
