Inhabiting concrete – from a utopia to a potential consensus

After the technical inventions of the 19th century in terms of construction materials, concrete quickly became established. The use of this material, which boasts all the qualities required to build and at a low costs, was widespread in postwar constructions. However, this utopia of new and modern cities did not garner public support and concrete became the subject of every possible criticism. A new awareness of its environmental impacts has then furthered this rejection. From a grey and austere material, today concrete is becoming light, bright and more sustainable. Might these new properties finally make us all appreciate it?
