On the edge of the Ossau Valley in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, a project to transform an old 19th century lime kiln. Despite the obsolescence of its industrial activity in the 1940s, the building stands firm. Its massive, atypical architecture contrasts with the wild and pastoral setting. It stands colossal, like an emblem of the Valley. A place conductive to observing and contemplating. Contemplating the surrounding nature and the humans whose lives were cadenced by the seasons. The current building’s hideaway is home to a cellar for ageing cheese, an ancestral craft practised by Ossau's shepherds. Visitors are invited to discover this craft with a tour through space and time that brings humans, architecture, its history and environment into dialogue.
