The majority of humans live in towns and cities. Yet in their current guise, they pose numerous problems: they are toxic to the planet and its inhabitants, as well as being a hotbed for inequality and exclusion, among other things. Cities are constantly changing and challenged: What will they look like? What should they look like? How will we live in the future? How can they evolve to respond to current social and environmental issues? What does the future hold for them? Do they have just one future? This dissertation does not seek to provide a single and definitive response, rather to encourage reflection and expand the imagination.
