The unsettling strangeness of design is an exploration of 33 strange, unsettling, out-of-the-ordinary objects. They are presented and their uses explained in the form of instructions. The aim is to discover surprising objects and pay attention to the perceptions, feelings and reactions they provoke in the reader. Each perception to this catalogue is different, but the analysis of these objects then allow us to consider their place in the field of design and in society. The importance of an object’s function and use can then be discussed. They challenge our perception of design and its definition.
